New poll research center advances learning opportunities
Dr. Brian Calfano, Missouri State University assistant professor of political science, recently initiated the Missouri State University Poll Research Center. The poll is designed as a public opinion tool to serve the community on questions of public interest.
The new venture places Missouri State University as one of the first learning institutions in the state of Missouri to carry out public opinion polling. The public opinion poll will facilitate student participation in the formation, implementation, analysis and presentation of quantitative data.
“We are presenting students with an opportunity not available at any other institutions in the state of Missouri. This is especially appropriate given that the poll’s focus is on providing information for public knowledge,” said Calfano.
The polling project is the result of an effort between the College of Humanities and Public Affairs, political science department and the office of citizenship and service-learning.
“The project clearly speaks to Missouri State University’s public affairs mission and the tangible role that students have in fulfilling this mission,” said Calfano.
