Maps librarian receives award
Jim Coombs, Missouri State University associate professor of library science and maps librarian at the Duane G. Meyer Library, was awarded the “American Library Association’s Map and Geography Round Table 2009 Honors Award” for his accomplishments in the profession of geography and map librarianship.
“This award is more than a map librarian of the year award; it’s a lifetime achievement award,” said Coombs. “It’s an award I’ve wanted for quite some time.”
Since 1981, when American Library Association’s Map and Geography Round Table was established, Coombs has served as publications distribution manager, production manager and cartoonist for the base line newsletter. Coombs also served as the Map and Geography Round Table chairperson, publications committee chairperson and exhibits committee chairperson, at different times.
